Veterinarians campaign against Proposition 129 calling it misleading
Who sees your pet at the veterinarian clinic could change in the future if voters approve Proposition 129 this fall.
In response, Colorado’s licensed veterinarians and veterinarian technicians have come out against the measure, saying that it could lead to underqualified and inadequately trained individuals performing animal surgeries.
“This isn’t going to have the outcomes that the proponents are suggesting,” says Dr. Jennifer Bolser, a Boulder-based licensed veterinarian with over 20 years of experience in the industry in shelters and general practice. “Most importantly, it has a potential for negative outcomes, because the proposal has individuals with significantly less training than a veterinarian and yet the legislative part of this is going to allow that individual to do everything a veterinarian does, including performing surgery.”
